Navigation Training Tip
Go to your nearest map or outdoor store and pick-up a 1:24,000 quad that covers your favorite local training areas. On your moderate or easy training days, take your map and practice your terrain association and route finding skills. Every ten minutes or so verify your location on the map. As you get more proficient incorporate this training on your longer rides or runs and pick new areas that you are less familiar with. Pre-plot a map course and see if you can go out and follow it without getting lost. This will pay huge dividends as you will quickly learn that your navigation abilities will be a primary factor in determining your team's pace.
