we need volunteers ... er, "onionteers"

who can be an onionteer?

Anyone who’s interested. All participants must sign release forms. Children under the age of 18 must have signed consent from, and be accompanied by, a parent or guardian.

what can i do as an onionteer?

onion 2003 preparation: help with pre-race organization, including any of the following: data entry, make phone calls to Racers and/or Onionteers, photocopy, collate, stuff Check Point, Racer, and Crew bags, run to the store to pick up stuff we need, talk to sponsors, etc.

data entry: enter demographic information into database for Racers, Crew, and Onionteers

racer/onionteer registration: Receive Racers, Crew, and/or Onionteers, provide waivers for all to sign, collect and track completion of all mandatory forms, collect USARA membership fees, give out Onion stuff.

race day checkpoint data collection: Receive Check Point times by radio from Onionteers stationed at various check points. Assist leader-board coordinators with up-to-the- minute availability of team rankings.

check point onionteer: Enjoy the excitement of manning a Check Point with others along the race course…record times on paper as the Racers pass through, then radio the times in so they can be updated on the leader-board. Cheer teams on as they push through the course.

onion store: Man the Onion Store for a shift…Help sell Onion Gear.

hospitality: Receive Onionteers before and after their shifts…restock refreshments, provide information updates, etc.

onionteer driver: Drive a van for a shift…Must know the City well, or manage with maps. Pick up and drop off Onionteers at their Check Points. Coordinate Pick-up and Drop-off times. Must have valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

kayak/canoe assistant: Load and unload kayaks and/or canoes on race day. Have special skills? Let us know-we may need you in the water!

ropes assistant: Have special skills? Experienced belayer? Let us know!

post-race wrap-up: Assist with wrapping up the details of Wild Onion 2002 after the race ends, and in the weeks following.

Some Onionteers choose to contribute their time to pre-race organization only. Others are only available for one shift on Race Day, or for post-race wrap-up. Still others act as floaters, and work several shifts during the race. Some do it all! Whatever you can do, we value your time and commitment, and look forward to hearing from you soon!
